The Market
The global aerospace industry commands an annual value greater than £900 bn. US industry sales show an estimated increase in 2008 by $4.1 bn to $204.4 bn, across the spectrum of civilian and military aircraft. Imports to the USA were predicted to increase, by $2 bn to $38.6 bn - more than 75% from Europe, Japan and Canada. On the UK domestic front, 2007 sales were up 1% to £19.84 bn, notwithstanding the relative weakness of the Pound against the Dollar (the currency of the global aerospace business). With companies such as Eurocopter recording increased sales and an outstanding order backlog worth 3 times their 2008 turnover, the coming years should see global aerospace retaining a position of strength and sustained growth.
